Children’s Green

The Children’s Green

Saturday, April 22
11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The Children’s Green highlights the St. Andrew’s global studies program, particularly the countries where we participate in student exchange programs. In addition, this year the event will feature several environmental themes, since the event falls on Earth Day!

The Children’s Green, themed “Travel the World in Our Backyard”, will feature three primary areas: Open Play, The Global Earth Village, and The Performance Stage.

The Open Play area will feature “Games Around the World” and highlight games and sports found both at St. Andrew’s and beyond. Kids will be able to “scale the Himalayas” with an onsite rock wall, as well as, “shoot to the moon” on a bungee trampoline. The Mississippi Children’s Museum will also be present with its special Imagination Playground. The Open Play area will also include a football toss, basketball, archery, chess, and many other adventures and games. There will be lots of opportunities for younger kids to interact with high school students and sports teams.

The Global Earth Village will feature exciting activities centered around the understanding, appreciation, and stewardship of water, air and earth resources. Children will experience booths where they can enjoy crafts and games from each environmental area. Creating boats from recycled materials and experiencing life sized bubbles are a few possibilities that await children on their “travels.”

The Performance Stage strives to complement the festival atmosphere for the artists and public alike with world-class entertainment. By tapping into the St. Andrew’s school community as well as the Jackson metro community at large, the Performance Stage line-up for the day will resonate with everyone. In the past, the day’s line-up has featured both modern and classical dance, a broad spectrum of music from rock to jazz to opera, as well as spectacular performances that showcase the diversity of the community at-large and world, including Balkan, Indian and Irish dancing, African drums, and Chinese zither music. This year’s performance schedule will again feature an outstanding line-up of local talent and international entertainment.
